About:
Herricks Middle School sixth-graders, which include student athletes, read more than 500,000 pages were read for their annual Community Service Read-A-Thon Project, which raised funds for the Ronald McDonald House in New Hyde Park. The facility is a non-profit organization that relies on the generosity of others to provide a home away from home for families with children who need medical attention from Cohen Children’s Medical Center. This year, the students raised close to $12,000 with the generosity of families and friends who sponsored them. In appreciation of its support, the school was provided with a plaque from the Ronald McDonald House in honor of the sixth grade. “We are grateful for this recognition and hope to strengthen the meaning behind “community service’ with our students” said Herricks Middle School Chairperson of Guidance Gina Horton. “Thanks to all the families, students and staff who have continually supported our Ronald McDonald mission!”
