About:
Nearly 30 basketball teams from elementary, middle, and high schools in Suffolk County, which included athletes from Commack High School, participated in the second annual Hoops for Hope tournament held in Holbrook on Sunday.
Initiated by 14-year-old Harold Teller two years ago, Hoops for Hope advocates for teen suicide prevention, addressing the critical need for youth mental health resources heightened by the COVID-19 pandemic. Harold plays for several AAU teams.
The all-day tournament at the Rossetti Basketball facility raised funds for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, with Harold dedicating well over 20 hours to organizing the event, covering venue expenses entirely through fundraising efforts. Notably, Harold is a ninth-grade student at Commack High School.
