About:
As part of a yearlong initiative to connect the curriculum to the community, the Merrick Avenue Middle School world languages department organized its second drive for the district’s food pantry, the Community Cupboard.
“During the unit on health and wellness, students collected personal hygiene items ranging from tissues to shampoo,” explained Chairperson Rosa Kaplan of the world languages department. “Hundreds of items were donated by both seventh and eighth grade students.”
To make this a buildingwide event, students from Felomena Fuschetto’s MORE class sorted the items to facilitate distribution.
Teachers Robyn Cohen, Anna Di Chiara and Melissa Steinhaus coordinated this community service activity.
