About:
Yesterday we had a fun “Pink Out” themed volleyball game where we partnered with another school, Fox Lane, to raise awareness for Breast Cancer Awareness month. Many of our student fans wore pink, donned BCA ribbon tattoos and/or pink football eyes. Our girls wore the t-shirts they sold as a fundraiser where they raised roughly $350 for the cause. At this game, we honored the mother of one of our JV players who is a BC survivor. Her name is Helen Pouloutides Smith and she’s amazing! She and I spoke several times throughout the last few weeks and while she had been pretty quiet about her fight against BC, she feels comfortable sharing her experience these days because as a survivor, she represents hope to someone newly diagnosed which is one of the things survivorship is all about! Our Coach, Lauren Riccardi, gave commentary on BC statistics and ways we as a community or even individually could help raise awareness and funds to support this cause. Also at this game, our JV girls handed Mrs. Smith pink roses player by player , the donation they made in her name (to the ACS as per her choice) and a gift from a local salon. It was pretty last minute but we were able to pull together a really nice afternoon. Our Varsity girls also took home a win in a thrilling 5 set match so it was a win all around.
The Ossining HS community is truly amazing when it comes to coming together to raise funds, awareness and to just lend support when it matters the most.
