About:
One of our JV Girl’s Basketball player’s mom was diagnosed with Breast Cancer this Summer and has been going through the chemo and radiation process. The girls on the JV and Varsity team along with their coaches came to me to see if we could do a special game to recognize Nancy Ruetsch. Nancy provides a lot of support to our Girls Basketball program and helps when needed. She helps with fundraising, provides rides to players for practices during and in the off-season, is always providing food, and willing to help the program and coaches in anyway possible. Our program calls Nancy the team mom.
The coach, players, and parents and team booster club rep (Kerry Hazen) teamed up with Upstate Hospital to provide a table with gifts and information regarding Breast Cancer.
After the JV game the athletic directed read a statement regarding Nancy and then the mic was turned over to girls Varsity basketball coach Troy Washington. Troy had a surprise in place for Nancy, after thanking Nancy for all she does for his program and how courageous she has been in her fight against cancer he presented her with Pink Flowers and had Syracuse University star basketball player Tiana Mangakahia, who is battling breast cancer herself. Tiana provided some words for encouragement and talked about her battle.
Nancy was able to chat with Tiana during the varsity game about their battles and ways to help others.
