About:
Josh Weinman from Nyack. He hosts the event. His girls deck out the courts in pink balloons, purchase the t-shirts, and have a spread of food laid out for everyone.
15 Rye girls and about a dozen Nyack girls played this year. We make the event purely about promotion. There is no fundraising. I merely ask all of the girls on my team to add at least one photo from the event and one link to information about breast cancer to their typical social media feeds whether it be their insta, tik tok, facebook etc. Show people what we were doing and why we were doing it.
We don’t play a match but promote the fun of the game and awareness of the cause. The girls play with different players for short 4 game doubles rotations and meet new players. This year was especially cool towards that ends because Nyack has a lot of new younger players, and I have a lot of seniors so for the young girls to get the experience of meeting and playing with older girls was a nice promotion of the sport.
We play for about 2+ hours and typically Josh and I play as well. This year Josh and his daughter, and senior captain Elodie, played a few games against two sisters named Catharina and Charlotte Ausfahl who are my top players.
Josh grew up in Rye and lives and teaches in Nyack. I live in Nyack and teach and coach in Rye, so it has a personal town to town connection for us.
