About:
In late January, students at John Pearl Elementary School participated in the annual Great Kindness Challenge, a national weeklong event focused on proactively preventing bullying in schools and creating a culture of kindness. Students of all grade levels participated in projects and activities geared toward these goals, from decorating the school fence to say “BE KIND” to a schoolwide fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House Charities. Above all, students were encouraged to perform as many acts of kindness as they could.
According to principal Susan White, “The Great Kindness Challenge teaches us that we all play a part in making our school family – and the world – a better place.” School social worker/youth and family services coordinator Heather Fuller added that this year’s event was particularly impactful, saying “With everything going on in the world and within our communities, the Great Kindness Challenge provided a wonderful opportunity for the students to spread positivity and to feel connected to each other despite social distancing.”
