Approximately 40 Jonas E. Salk Middle School students from Michele Witte’s seventh- and eighth-grade classes recently participated in the Tyler’s Teddies movement, raising approximately $300 for Kids In Danger, a nonprofit organization dedicated to child consumer safety products. The fundraiser, which was inspired by a little boy named Tyler who died as a result of an unsafe child product, allows students to “pay it forward” during the holiday season.
The students prepared hundreds of little teddy bears with a tag that read: “You received a Tyler’s Teddy and now you get to pay it forward! Do something nice or be someone kind; this little bear is sure to remind!” The bears were sold for $3 each during students’ lunch periods. Many students purchased teddies and gave them to unsuspecting friends and family members who in turn were asked to “pay it forward” by doing a good deed during the holiday season. At the end of the fundraiser, the school hosted a pajama day as a celebration of kindness.
