This past weekend, about 150 people attended opening night ceremonies
for the Third Annual Jeremy Feder All-Star Charity Baseball Tournament, benefitting America’s VetDogs.
Fundraising efforts are still coming in from private donations, but as of now,
approximately $6,000 was raised from the tourney – which ran from Sept.
21-23 in Oceanside. The tournament was created and developed three years ago
by Jeremy Feder, who is now 14 and an honor student in the 10th grade at
Oceanside High School. During the past three years, close to $18,000 has
been raised for Smithtown-based America’s VetDogs, which provides free,
trained service dogs to disabled veterans and first responders all across
the nation. Student volunteers assisted at opening night festivities and
received community service credits.
“Playing baseball is always great; playing for an important cause like
helping our veterans makes it just perfect,” Feder said. “Thank you to all
the teams and their coaches, our corporate sponsors, businesses who gave
merchandise and gift cards for raffle baskets, Oceanside Little League, and
the support of the Oceanside School District and our local legislators.”
The winning team from this weekend’s tournament was the 12U South Shore
Sharks, who won 4-2 in a very exciting championship game on Sunday against
the Valley Stream Hawks.
